Lantern making

May Darkness Be Your Compass

The beautiful contrast of light and dark illuminates itself for me most during the colder, quieter seasons.  It is a time of gratitude for the period of rest that leaves us feeling rejuvenated and recharged for the coming year.  Fall, as it bleeds into winter allows us to start quieting the mind.  Then, winter comes with the gift of darkness where seeds of wisdom lie beneath the earth’s surface, manifesting visions of the year to come.  If we can  accept this gift of quieting the mind, we can connect with our souls and discover what’s asking to be revealed.

Winter and darkness can also be challenging as we wait for the promise of warmer weather and abundant gardens. To keep the fire of the spirit kindled, you’ll often find a fire in our woodstove and warm mugs of tea at the ready.

Lantern making is becoming a favorite tradition for our family.  A beautiful Waldorf seasonal handwork tradition that we’ve adopted.  The lantern I’m creating here I adapted from a resource given in one of our online classes at Lotus and Ivy. Here is a quick look at how I made it;
